1st July

No more fags in pubs. So apparently a lot of people will be giving up smoking this week. I suspect Britain will be a very angry place for the next fortnight or so.

Also, what will happen to all the ashtrays? There must be millions of them in pubs with no job to do. I hope they return them to the wild. Run free little ashtrays...

It will be like "28 Days Later".

"28 Days after the fag ban and the people of London are ripping each other to bits."

No more fags in pubs. No one's kicked me out of a pub yet. No wait I did get told to leave the wetherspoons toilets for misbehaving and the barman in question had a good old feel around my pockets.

You've got to admire the two chaps who defied the smoking in public places ban at Glasgow airport last week.

A friend of mine (a smoker) hatched an art project when he heard about the banning of smoking in bars in our province. He and a few friends began to collect the ashtrays and give them to the local art college where fledgling artist could use them to create sculpture, auctioned off, and the proceeds would go towards cancer research. He was interviewed by the local rag and asked whether there was an irony in him being a smoker and doing this sort of charitable act. His response was, "I may be a smoker, but I'm not pro-cancer."

My only reservation about the banning of smoking in bars and restaurants is that now there won't be a match book readily avaibale to fix the uneven table legs.

The other downside, especially Ireland, is the all pervading odour of arts. It must be the Guinness.
